François Morellet

Born in 1926 in Cholet (France), died on May 11, 2016 in Cholet (France).

Passionate and influenced by geometric abstraction, Morellet became a pioneer of minimalism in the early 1950s.

He later became interested in light, using neon tubes in his works, and then moved toward kinetic art, purifying his work of any romantic language.
Quite naturally, his research led to creations in the fields of applied arts and architecture.
