Georges Mathieu

Born in 1921 in Boulogne-sur-Mer. Died in 2012 in Boulogne-Billancourt, France.

French painter considered one of the fathers of lyrical abstraction, a term he coined in reaction to existing geometric abstraction.
In 1947, he claimed the paternity of "dripping," which had been attributed to Jackson Pollock since 1945. From 1954 onward, he created numerous timed performance/happening paintings in front of an audience, emphasizing the speed of movement. An official artist in France, he created the 10-franc coin in 1974 and the series of Air France posters exhibited worldwide.
Silver necklace 1959 – Unique – (known as "cuttlebone" process) exhibited at "Antagonisme 2 l'objet" at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in 1962.
