Joana Vasconcelos
Born in 1971 in Paris (France). Lives and works in Lisbon (Portugal).
A Portuguese sculptor and multimedia artist, her work focuses on women and their place in the world: sometimes housewife, tender lover, sometimes warrior woman, like her Valkiries. Most of her works balance between these different facets.
Presented in major solo and group exhibitions in Portugal and abroad, her work is striking first and foremost for its inventiveness, its chromatic exuberance, and its playful appearance.
In 2012, the artist founded the Fundação Joana Vasconcelos, whose mission, in addition to managing her work, is to "support all those who have chosen the path of Art" by promoting art and cultural education.
