Julio González

Julio González - 1876-1942 - Spanish sculptor, born in Barcelona, is considered by art historians to be the founder of modern iron sculpture. At a very young age, he created his first pieces of jewelry, which can be described as works in their own right. From the earliest exhibitions (Salon d'Automne), and until the 1920s, his forged objects, jewelry, and paintings were exhibited together. Julio González sought to present himself as a painter, sculptor, and jeweler-goldsmith. His jewelry held a particular importance in his work; he created them throughout his life, in silver, bronze, iron, or precious stones, sometimes taking on the appearance of "mini sculptures."
