Louise Nevelson

Born in Kyiv in 1899, died in 1988 in New York (USA).

She emigrated from Ukraine to the USA at the age of 6 with her father.
Nevelson is recognized among the artists of Abstract Expressionism. She used found objects to construct her sculptures.
She assembled wooden crates according to a pre-established design, then nailed other objects, always made of wood, onto them.
She then painted the whole piece, which she often presented to symbolize an altar.
Highly eccentric, she was famous for her long black dresses, false eyelashes, and spectacular jewelry she created herself.
