Born in 1932, in Tunis.
Phillip King is a sculptor whose work is defined by the richness and variety of forms and materials, as well as the freedom with which he moves from one expression to another.
A former student and assistant of Anthony Caro and Henry Moore, since 1962, King has not hesitated to exploit materials usually far removed from abstract vocabulary and to make them communicate with each other or with found industrial objects. From then on, King dared to use very vivid colors in a rather chromophobic period. Color occupies a fundamental place in his work; it is almost a material in itself.
Despite an easily accessible visual aspect, these works possess all the qualities of sculpture: weight, mass, balance, volume… Vivid hues would practically become the subject of his later series. In a relationship very close to painting, with coherent compositions, color punctuates and gives rhythm to the volumes.
It was in 2017 that he created his first piece of jewelry, a pendant whose colorful volumes are a summary of his plastic research.
