Robert Indiana

Born in 1928 in New Castle, Indiana (United States). Died in 2018 in Vinalhaven, Maine (United States).

The artist Robert Indiana asserts the American specificity of his work.
"I am an American painter of signs," he likes to say.
This characteristic applies as much to the iconography of his works, likened to that of Pop Art, as to his mode of expression, often linked to the hard-edge (cold and geometric) movement of American abstraction.
In 1966, he created LOVE for the city of Philadelphia, a sculpture that would make him famous worldwide. In 1978, he settled in Vinalhaven, on an island in Maine, north of Boston.
