Born in 1971 in Paris (France). Lives and works in Lisbon (Portugal).
Portuguese sculptor and multimedia artist, her work concerns women and their place in the world. From notions of a housewife, or a tender, loving woman, or a warrior woman – like her Valkyries – most of her works swing between these different facets of womanhood.
Presented at major solo and group exhibitions in Portugal and around the world, her work is striking for its inventiveness, its chromatic exuberance and its playful appearance.
In 2012, the artist created the Fundação Joana Vasconcelos, whose mission, in addition to managing her work, is to “support all those who have chosen the part of Art” by promoting the arts and cultural education.
