Lucio Fontana

Born in 1899 in Rosario de Santa Fe (Argentina), died in 1968 in Varese (Italy).

He explored all aspects of the medium to create a refined art. In 1946, he wrote the "White Manifesto," which heralded the end of painted canvas.
He reclaimed monochrome, which he mistreated by piercing and slitting canvases. He was one of the first to speak of conceptual art, emphasizing the idea over the work.
