Max Ernst

Born in 1891 in Brühl (Germany), died in 1976 in Paris (France).

A German painter, he founded the Dada group in Cologne with Jean Arp before joining the Montparnasse artist community.
In 1925, he invented "frottage," which created imaginary figures, and later "grattage." He also participated in Surrealism.
He was the husband of Peggy Guggenheim and the artist Dorothea Tanning.
