Raymond Hains

Born in 1926 in Saint-Brieuc, died in 2005 in Paris (France).

In 1949, photography led him, for a decade, to consider torn posters in order to highlight their conceptual and visual richness. He briefly joined Nouveau Réalisme in 1960, with his friend Jacques Villeglé.
Language games have always interested him, and from the late 1960s onward, he explored visual and verbal puns in improbable "interlockings."
He exhibited his work at Documenta, the Fondation Cartier in Venice, the Centre Pompidou, and the DIY section of BHV.
